FUNCTIONAL FITNESS: WHAT? WHY? HOW?


PHASE 01


Between Queen's Park and Kilburn Park Stations, along Canterbury Road, and down a flight of stairs at Canterbury house lies NXT PHASE. Our brand-new boutique gym offering specialist classes and world-class personal training. At 3,000 sq feet, flooded with glorious natural light, it's the home of Functional Fitness in Queen's Park.

WHY WE DO IT

By definition, NXT PHASE is about elevating oneself from one point to the next. It's not just our name; it's our mission. We got into the gym game because we feel that fitness has become too fancy and too reliant on exercise machines. Why is this an issue? Well, think of your body's natural movements as 3D. Your body effectively moves in 2D when using these machines because the machine does some of the work to mimic your natural movement. Your potential gains are compromised.

Instead, we advocate Functional Fitness. That is exercises that train your muscles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating everyday movements you might do at home or in sports. For example, a squat is a functional fitness exercise because it trains the muscles used when you rise up and down from a chair or pick up low objects.

HOW WE DO IT

We're not your typical gym. For a start, there's an intentional lack of cross-trainers etc. Rather, a track & sledge, squat rack and cable crossover take pride of place on our gym floor. For us, it's the use of bodyweight, gravity and performance apparatus that truly work the body. Plus, we use Repetition, Intensity, Performance, Speed and Strength (RIPSS effect) to up the ante.

All this means we can tailor our workouts to your level of fitness - from #absolutebeast to #fitnessnewbie - so you perform better with every workout. Oh yes, and let's not forget our secret ingredient, a massive spoonful of feel-good vibes!

Like everything, achieving gains takes work! Consistency is critical, and our #dreamteam trainers are on-hand to guide, challenge and motivate you every step of the way. Because you know, it's a marathon, not a sprint.
